Hand Photos

This is just a tiny part of the shoot. The total number of photos came up to nearly 300 which had to then be individually editing the suit the features of my face. The image bellow is an example of putting the images together to create my face. I then made the final image black and white as it decreased the random colour elements within the picture, created by each individual photo.

FACE

Original Portrait.

This is the image which I will use for my final project which will be over layered by small square photos of my hands, to then create the final portrait. The set up was a win light set up to create a light shadow on half of my face, creating a more interesting image. The image is in black and white to increase the shadow perception and to also make the final image easier to create as the colour has been reduced, so only shadows will have to be matched.

The grid over the image is to give my self and equal platform to work on, to ensure the hand images are of a similar size and fit the portrait, making the image look better and in line.

Final Image

This is the final image I have created for sound and vision. Each square is an individual photo of a part of my hand, which has been individual editing to suit my face; in size, texture, and colour. I feel this process has successfully depicted my key features, understanding that the final image is my self.

The reason for using hands to create a portrait, is because I believe that your hands and your face are the two most defining physical features of the human body, as they both are the two main things we use to communicate, interact, and express ourselves. Putting these features together creates a strong understanding of ourselves, and how important these features are to us. This project proves that our facial features can easily be defined, as hands and facial features look nothing alike, but when made small enough, and edited to suit the textures and colours within the face, these features can be re-created.

The next stage will be to animate the portrait, to build up the image through separate segments to appear and animate on a beat of a drum, created by myself. The drums will be in a jazz style, a style which I enjoy very much which is why I chose the genre, as I want to create a full portrait of my self, representing me throughout. I chose to use drums due to the punchy sounds the create, helping emphasise the animations, as well as this, the drums are also played with your hands, so are a good example of representing a human.
